I’m Cy Liu, a freelance multimedia journalist based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

My work explores themes of diaspora, identity, gender, and community-building. My reporting on human trafficking and the cyberscam industry in Cambodia was recognized as a 2023 Gerald Loeb Award Finalist and received the 2023 Society of Publisher’s in Asia (SOPA) Carlos Tejada Award for Excellence in Investigative Reporting with a team of journalists from the now-shuttered Cambodian local outlet VOD.

I am a contributor to Reuters and Getty Images, and my photos, videos, and writing have been commissioned by publications including The New York Times, The Guardian, Bloomberg, South China Morning Post, ProPublica, Rest of World, Der Spiegel, and VOD.

I have also worked with NGOs including Better Factories Cambodia (ILO), ActionAid, the World Health Organization, and UNESCAP.

I graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Computer Science. I am fluent in English and Mandarin and speak intermediate Khmer. I am a member of Women Photograph and Diversify Photo.
